To ski
Fun on the slopes away from mass tourism. If you’re looking for that, you’ve come to the right place in the St. Jakob ski center.
The family-friendly ski area is the perfect place for everyone who wants to enjoy the sun, snow, perfect slopes, honest hospitality and a picture-book panorama. 23 kilometers of pistes and seven lifts are available and invite you to pure skiing pleasure.
Our house is right at the foot of the St. Jakob ski center. In just a few steps you can reach the ski area, the ski rental and the ski school.
ski touring
The attraction of untouched powder slopes and picturesque winter landscapes is no longer a secret. A real insider tip for an unforgettable winter mountain experience is the Defereggental. There are numerous touring options here that will make the heart of every ski tourer beat faster.
cross country skiing
The snow-covered landscape passes by and ice crystals glitter on the snow fields. Cross-country skiing is a perfect combination of nature experience and sport and the ideal supplement or alternative to alpine skiing. In the Defereggental there are almost 60 kilometers of trails for a cross-country skiing experience in a beautiful mountain setting and untouched nature.
ice climbing
Climbing fun is also possible in winter. In addition to numerous icefalls, which are favored by high and partly shady valleys throughout East Tyrol, the Osttirol Ice Park offers the best conditions for every climbing fan. Eispark Osttirol is located in the Tauern Valley, a 20-minute walk from the Matreier Tauernhaus, and is Austria’s largest artificial ice climbing park.
snowshoeing
A special kind of experience is a snowshoe hike through the fantastically snow-covered winter landscape. All around silence. Only the crunching of the snow, the clattering of the sticks and your own breathing can be heard. Step by step you conquer your way through snow-covered winter landscapes. Whether it’s a full moon tour or a wildlife observation tour with a national park ranger – you shouldn’t miss out on this special pleasure.
