High mountain lakes, waterfalls, mountain streams, springs and moors – the Defereggental mountain water paradise is home to a multitude of unique water treasures just waiting to be discovered. In particular, the new panoramic play arena “Water Myth Ochsenlacke” at 2,300 meters above sea level in the Brunnalm ski area offers a very special experience for the whole family.

Deferegger healing water (world)

People in St. Jakob have known for a long time that the Deferegger healing water is something special. It is probably part of a primordial sea that has been preserved at a depth of 1850 meters in the Deferegger Alps. With a confirmed age of 1 million years, it is currently the oldest medicinal water in Europe. The iodized sodium chloride brine thermal bath is not drinkable, but is used in the form of spray applications, wraps and baths to heal skin diseases, injuries, problems with the paranasal sinuses and bronchi, and rheumatic joint problems. In the meantime, a wide range of Deferegger Heilwasser natural cosmetic products has also been developed. You are also welcome to buy all products from the healing water line from us. Just ask.

You can get to the bottom of the origin of the special water in the Deferegger Heilwasserwelt and learn more about the “legacy of the primeval sea”. Guided tours are offered regularly.

Natural jewel Jagdhausalmen

The Jagdhausalm – often referred to as the “Little Tibet” of the Alps – is embedded in a picturesque natural setting at 2,009 meters above sea level at the rear end of the Defereggen valley. It consists of 19 stone houses and the Maria Hilf chapel and is one of the oldest alpine pastures in Austria. As early as 1212 there were 6 alpine huts, which were called “Schwaighöfe” in the vernacular. Today, the houses on the Jagdhausalm are mostly used as stables, storerooms and dwellings for the herdsmen. The Jagdhausalm can be reached from St. Jakob. A toll road leads from the district of Erlsbach to the Oberhausalm snack bar, which in turn serves as an ideal starting point for a hike to the Jagdhausalm. On the way there, a detour to the new wildlife observation tower on the edge of the Oberhauser pine forest is a good idea. The 22 meter high tower offers the opportunity, with a bit of luck, to observe wild animals in their natural environment.

Arriving at the Jagdhausalmen, a very special photo motif awaits you just a few minutes’ walk away with the “peacock eye”. The journey is worth it!

Wide glacier fields, deep green mountain lakes and roaring glacial streams with impressive waterfalls invite you on a journey of discovery into an “alpine wilderness”.
